So many Cyber Security options to choose from

Probably more now than ever before Cyber Security solutions are available everywhere. Microsoft’s has Windows Defender, their built-in Windows application. Google is even rolling out their own line-up such as Backstory, Uppercase and Virustotal to make their presence known in yet another arena. AT&T has recently merged their AT&T Cybersecurity Consulting and AT&T Managed Security Services to create a unified division known as AT&T Cybersecurity.

But beyond the big dogs in the fight against hackers with malicious intent; there are over thousands of companies that are tossing their own hat into the Cyber rodeo and more to come along. From start-ups to mid-sized companies of all varying sizes and ambitions.

So how does one know the right vendor to select for their security vendors:

1. Effectiveness – Any new security solution you add to your repertoire should be an upgrade from what you have currently have. Do your research. Read reviews; if the product is publicly available on marketplaces, online stores and libraries. There are also many third-party reports that offer production comparison to better leverage educated decision making for you.

2. Simple – Of course. You want simplicity to be at the forefront of any IT-related solution you add or at least when it comes to security. How easy is your product to install, run and even maintain. Will your IT personnel need to spend too much time of their day maintaining the security solution that it detracts from productivity in other areas.

3. How well does it perform – You do not want a security solution that eats up too much of your computers processing capabilities. Too much computing power eaten up will negate usable scans and halt signature updates thus rendering your security product useless. Performance is key.

4. Reputation – So ask yourself these questions when deciding on if a company is right to buy from. What are their clients saying about them? It doesn’t matter if they have 10 clients or 1,000. If those clients are saying they made an excellent purchase and would consider buying more product from the vendor than that is a big plus. Also does the company have a vision? Based on research you gather is this company looking to grow? Are they looking to expand their product line? What do they have planned in the next year or 5 years or even 10 years?
